Are You Crazy About Kale?

Kale, a dark leafy green contains almost 55 grams of calcium per serving. For ages mankind just used it as a garnish but now it is known as one of the most nutritious superfoods on the planet.

There are lots of wonderful ways to eat kale. You can eat it raw in a salad. People love it braised with garlic. You can also broil it along with other vegetables  with a little oil in a roasting pan.  It retains it’s flavor and shape in the oven because it is so stiff. Kale also goes nicely in any kind of green shake.  It provides numerous vitamins, lots of fiber and gives you a lot of energy to work out.

Although Kale contains all kinds of vitamins and organic minerals it is also rich in calcium.  Eating foods rich in calcium, as well as minerals and vitamins that work synergistically with calcium, helps to prevent bone loss and enhance mental and physical health

For a green, kale is unusually high in fiber. This helps create the bulk you need to fill you up and to keep you full for a good amount of time.  This is why it also makes such an amazing diet food. It keeps your colon happy and helps you lose weight.

In addition to beta-carotene, kale posses other important carotenoids: lutein and zeaxathin. These carotenoids help keep UV rays from damaging the eyes and causing cataracts. Your eyes will be bright, healthy and you will have less eye fatigue working at the computer

According to recent research results, kale is an incredible source of well-absorbed calcium, which is one of the many factors that may help prevent osteoporosis. It also provides decent amounts of vitamin C, folic acid, vitamin B6, manganese, and potassium which are essential if you want to keep flexible and strong enough to participate in life.

The manganese in kale helps your body’s own antioxidant defense system, superoxide dismutase, protecting you from damaging free radicals. Its folate and B6 team up to keep homocysteine levels down, which may help prevent heart disease, dementia, and osteoporosis bone fractures.

As it is such a filling food that has next to no calories it can definitely keep you feeling slim. Kale is also an excellent source of nutrients, especially vitamin A and calcium. With a combination of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients, kale is a dieter’s dream food.

Infrared Treatments Keep You Beautiful and Healthy

Infrared or Far Infrared sauna therapy is a wonderful beautiful treatment that also takes care of all aches and pains in the body.  Conventional saunas may be electric or wood fired and usually includes rocks, which may have water thrown on them to create steam.

Far infrared saunas use ceramic or metallic elements for heating that mainly emit in the far infrared range. The red light emitted in might also assist the eliminative organs. Infrared waves are not visible to human eyes but can be seen by special instruments that translate infrared into colors that are visible to our eyes. Eighty percent of the sun’s healing rays are infrared rays.

A far infrared sauna works by to duplicate the healthy frequencies of our own cells.  The tissues are purported to selectively absorb these rays as the water in the cell reacts in a process called “resonant absorption”.   This type absorption occurs when the frequency of the far infrared matches the frequency of the water in the human cell.  This causes toxins from the cells to be put out into the blood stream and excreted in sweat, feces, and urine in the usual process of detoxification.

Far infrared light is far more penetrating then other kinds. It is claimed to penetrate the body’s tissues to a depth of 1.5 to three inches.

Due to the s deep penetration of infrared rays into the body, a heating effect is observed deep in the muscular tissues and even into the internal organs.

This “deep heating,” along with sweating, is thought to be responsible for the healing effects and the other health benefits associated with these infrared rays. The deep heat stimulates the body to release fat-soluble toxins, heavy metals, and other toxic chemicals in sweat through the sweat pores and is said to be more effective than exercise.

Yet another benefit is its effect on the immune system. A typical sauna session will causes the body to experience a brief fever with the body temperature rising between one and three degrees.

So how often should you sit in a far infrared sauna in order to experience the benefits? Start with twenty minutes per day and gradually increase.  After a few weeks, may increase to 30-40 minutes up to twice per day.  If you suffer from serious medical problems be cautious and only stay in five or ten minutes (or as your physician recommends.

The best time for a far infrared sauna session is first thing when you get up or first thing after you got to bed.  You should rest for about fifteen minutes after every infrared sauna session.

What to Wear to A Spa

Maybe you have lucked out and your boyfirend has given you a gift certificate to a spa!  Does a spa have a dress code?  Is there a reason why women always wear white to a spa? Perhaps it is because the color is reminiscent of the long robes that were worn by ancient Greek and Roman royalty as they luxuriated in their stone baths and salt water springs.

A popular type of spa apparel is the spa robe, which is often called either a Turkish Robe or a Japanese Kimono style robe. Despite the name the design of these is basically the same except that the Turkish robe style may have a rolled collar and the Japanese style robe may have no collar at all along with wider wizard type sleeves. Both types are made of a towel like material for wicking moisture off of the skin.

The best sparobe for women has a high thread count and is thick enough to be absorbent but not so thick that it leaves lint on the skin. In fact spa apparel feels best on the skin if it is a little lighter and rougher in texture than if it is soft.  You can buy very soft and plush spa apparel but many women also find this type of robe or towel to be too hot to stay in for  too long.  The robe should be a bit thin and made of a very high quality cotton.

The sexiest spa apparel is simply a towel that has a Velcro strip or button attached to the top so that you can simply wrap it around yourself without having to worry about exposing too much flesh. People love these types of spa wraps because they allow you to air out the skin without having to be completely naked. They also come in different lengths from those that just graze the hips to those that  reach the ankles.

You can get spa apparel in other colors besides white with the hippest and trendiest colors lately being brown or a combination of brown or white. Perhaps the least fashionable spa robes and other types of spa apparel are those that come in colors such as pink or purple. Sometimes these more old fashioned and thickly piled spa robes are more reminiscent of bath mats than glamorous spa wear.  Spend a few dollars more and get something glamourous.

Lip Balms for Cold Weather

Dry or chapped lips can be a real problem when cool weather approches. It can be hard to know how to protect your lips from the cold once the cracking, bleeding and chapping starts and does not seem to stop.

The main reason your lips become chapped is because there are no oil glands in your lips to keep them moisturized.  Another reason is a lack of Vitamin B, D or C.  Deficiencies of these vitamins can cause the skinto look weathered and dry.

Ultraviolet rays can be just as bad for your lips and skin in the winter as they are in the summer.  The cold or dry weather can cuase yor skin to dry out.  If there is snow on the ground the sun’s rays can bounce back and even burn them a bit.  Look for a lip balm that has a bit of zinc or sunblock in it for best results.

When our lips feel dry the natural tendency is to lick them. This is the worst thing you can do because the more that you use saliva to wet your lips the more the moisture evaporates from them and the more dried out they become.  If you have  stuffy nose you can end up exahling through your mouth a lot more often than you usually would. The result is dry chapped lips.  It can help to cover your lips with a scarf to prevent them from drying out.

Mouthwashes with alcohol in them can also make htings worse. This is because alcohol dries out the tissues of the mouth.

Dry air is often the culprit. Using a humidifier will help make sure that you get proper air flow.

Be sure to protect your lips with lip balm instad of lipstick.  Lipstick often has agents in it that dries lips out a little when your goal during the winter should be to try and do the opposite.  It is the long lasting lipsticks that tend to have the most drying agents and irritants in them.

When choosing a lip balkm choose one with natural ingredients that can reduce your exposure to harful ingredients and possible allergies.  Organic lip balms are usually freer of chemicals.

Soothing agents that are ideal to have in a high quality lip balm are Shea Butter, Calendula and Olive oil.  Shea butter is especailly wonderful when it comes to not only moisturizing lips but also sealing in the moisture that is there.
